Evaluation of the condition and prediction of the stability of geological environment in city agglomerations

Geological environment of city agglomerations is quickly changing its qualities and losing its stability under the influence of not only natural, but also technically made factors. The prevention and reduction of the negative influence of environment on engineering constructions may be possible on the basis of the prediction of changing of its qualities.

In the Educational Establishment "Gomel FRANCISK Skorina State University" there has been created a constantly-active model of the geological environment of Gomel, in particular:

§ data base of engineering-geological conditions on the territory of Gomel;

§ the set of maps, which include ordinary geological maps and the maps of engineering-geological zoning of the territory.

The constantly-active model allows to evaluate the situation and to predict the changes of engineering-geological conditions of separate areas and the territory in general, including:

§ to optimize the projecting of the zones of perspective building;

§ to predict the changes of engineering-geological conditions under the influence of different types of technically-made burden and to determine the complex of measures to provide the necessary safety of constructions' usage;

§ to find out the problematic areas of built-up areas, which need the quickest measures to increase the usage safety of engineering constructions, and to work these measures out;

§ to determine the main reasons of the deformation of engineering constructions on the basis of the analyses of the changes of engineering-geological situation after building and using.

The constantly-active model of geological environment on the territory of Gomel and the methods of the prediction of its stability have been tested in Gomel. The tests showed the perspective of the creation of such models and of the usage of the methods of evaluation and prediction for the territories of city agglomerations and industrialized areas.

The University is carrying out scientific research and provides the services of engineering type:

§ to adapt the constantly-active model of the geological environment of Gomel to customers' demands;

§ to work out constantly-active models of geological environment of city agglomerations, big constructions and industrialized zones of the Republic of Belarus and other countries, of the evaluation of the condition and the prediction of the changes of engineering-geological conditions of territories and zones, including those that correspond to customers' demands.

The transfer of knowledge, experience and know-how is possible.
