Francisk Skorina Gomel State University joined the Magna Charta of the European Universities (Magna Charta Universitatum Europearum). The document was signed on 30-31 August 2017 at the international conference “University values for today: Central European perspectives and challenges” in Pecs, Hungary, to celebrate the 29th anniversary of the Magna Charta Universitatum. Vice-Rector for Academic affairs Andrei Kruk was a representative of Francisk Skorina Gomel State University. He stated that this agreement execution is a step towards realization of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) principles within the frame of the Bologna process. “We expect an increase of academic mobility among students and lecturers. They will get an opportunity to present their experience, organize joint research projects, do an internship, study and work at the international educational institutions of Europe, meet the best traditions and thought schools of foreign institutions, modern technologies and front-rank experience that will be used for the sake of our university and our country. This document execution is an important stage of integration into the international higher education system, as well as public apprehension of high quality of the national higher education model”. “GSU is reckoned amongst 13% of the leading world universities. Consequently, this fact claimed membership of the Magna Charta, that can enhance our University prestige and competitive performance of graduates at contemporary labor market”. The Magna Charta Universitatum is a document that was signed by 388 rectors and heads of universities from all over Europe and beyond on 18 September 1988, the 900th anniversary of the University of Bologna. Now over 800 universities from all continents have signed it. It contains principles of academic freedom and institutional autonomy as a guideline for good governance and self-understanding of universities in the future.
