Sunlight of the last summer day is breaking through the windows of an airy classroom at Francisk Skorina Gomel State University. The atmosphere is filled with emotions running high during the entrance examinations: prospective students from Turkmenistan have an admission interview at our University.

They are expected to compose a concise but in-depth essay on a particular subject within 90 minute time-limit. The students are excited: their performance will be estimated not only in the field of their subject, but also according to their level of Russian proficiency.

“I’m so worried because of my inadequate command of Russian”, frankly admits Maral Saparnyyazova. “But I feel at home with English language, so I hope it will help me pass the admission interview and enroll into the Faculty of Foreign languages”.

Maral is sure that she will be able to pick up Russian by all means and communicate with her new friends from Belarus. Moreover, her friend is a third-year student of our University. Maral followed her example and came to Gomel making it a worthy choice. “Being a student of Gomel State University is a high profile status”, says Maral. “Foreign students are provided with great conditions and facilities for education, they are granted allowances and discounts. I have heard a lot about the high quality education at this University, warm and homely atmosphere, understanding of the lecturers and good heartedness of the Belarusian people.

Through the experience it has been found that Francisk Skorina Gomel State University is extremely popular with international students coming to Belarus. This year our University opens up its doors to the students from Turkmenistan, China, India, Iraq, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Gambia.
