On December 20, 2017 Francisk Skorina Gomel State University held a solemn event – opening of the 1st regional Confucius Institute. It was attended by the leaders of GSU, the delegation of Nanjing University of Science and Technologies, the Secretary of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Belarus, as well as representatives of Minsk Universities, where such institutions are already functioning.

Confucius Institutes form a network of international cultural and educational centers created by the State Chancellery for the dissemination of the Chinese language abroad.

In 2016 with the support of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, Confucius classroom was opened at Gomel State University, where educational, scientific and cultural-educational activities are actively conducted.

Currently, the International Chinese-Belarusian Scientific Laboratory for Vacuum-Plasma Technologies is working productively, 37 young people from China are studying at Gomel University, more than 120 Belarusian students are studying the language, culture and traditions of the Celestial Empire.
