The ceremonial meeting dedicated to September 1 became the happiest moment for the first-year students who gathered along with their parents in front of the building number 1 in this sunny morning. The administration staff-members, deans of the faculties (wearing gowns as a symbol of international scientific community), corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, leading GSU academicians, teachers and senior students.

Silver-medal prizewinner of Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, master`s degree student of our University Maria Mamoshuk was invited as an honored guest. Before the meeting dedicated to Knowledge Day the sportsman and her coach Sergei Smalya, also the graduate of Francisk Skorina Gomel State University, accepted congratulations from the administration staff-members, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Culture Gennady Narskin, the mass-media representatives. In his speech Rector of the University Sergei Khakhomov wished Maria to obtain gold medal of Olympic Games in Tokyo and the freshmen – to be patient and succeed in study.

«You entered one of the most prestigious Universities of the country where you have a chance to obtain professional skills and develop your creative capacities to the full extent», - instructed the first-year students S.Khakhomov.

Doctor of Chemistry, corresponding member of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, professor Alexander Rogachev and Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, professor Michael Selkin congratulated the freshmen and wished them to be persistent in obtaining chosen professions.

The symbolic student card and a «knowledge key» will become an embodiment of their pursuit of new discoveries and achievements which will anyway accompany the young men during the whole period of their study.
