«When I was a student of one of the Scottish universities I made friends with many people, really close friends. I will also never forget the local canteen», - admitted Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the Republic of Belarus Fionna Geebb during her meeting with students. She visited the leading University of the region within the framework of her business visit to Gomel.

The foreign visitor got acquainted with educational and scientific potential of the University, discussed with the administration possibilities of further mutually beneficial cooperation. Rector of Francisk Skorina Gomel State University Sergei Khakhomov told Mrs. Geebb about the procedure of entering the Bologna process carried out in our University, existing ties with Great Britain, annual visits of colleagues from our twin-city Aberdeen (Scotland).

This conversation initiated in the administration office was further continued in the reading hall of the building № 4 where students, deans and the University staff members were waiting for Fionna Geebb anxiously. The visitor was speaking about her student years, traditions existing at Scottish universities, her devoted university friends. The listeners posed questions. The youth wanted to find out how Mrs. Fionna Geebb managed to succeed in her carrier, which Belarusian traditions she found the most astonishing. There were more serious questions as well, such as Brexit, prevention of extremism in the UK. Associate professor of Department of Theory and Practice of English Language Tatyana Pochinok asked Fionna Geebb to stimulate the development of cooperation between Faculty of Foreign Languages of GSU and English universities and received a positive answer.

The meeting was interesting, nobody seemed to regret the wasted time. Quite the opposite, the students didn`t let Mrs. Ambassador leave for a long time and posed questions personally, made photos, expressed their gratitude for her visit and wished further success in the sphere of diplomacy.
