On September 1 the celebratory assembly for the first year students was held near the University building №1. With tremendous feeling of joy young and talented guys entered the University which henceforward became their alma mater.

The opening ceremony was held by the rector of the University, correspondent member of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, honourable scientist of Republic of Belarus Alexander Rogachev.

«Francisk Skorina Gomel State University is one of the best Universities of Belarus. Ninety percent of honoured teachers of Gomel region are our alumni, more than a half of professors of the region are our teachers. The University has all the facilities necessary for the self-realization», – emphasized Alexander Vladimirovich and wished the young generation to be dignified students of Francisk Skorina Gomel State University.

In accordance with the existing tradition and in order to signify the studentship the rector gave the first year students a symbolic student card. This year the student card accepted the first year student of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Alexandra Rys` and the golden medal winner of the 46th International Olympics in Physics in India Anton Tolkachev.

The administrative staff members, honourable guests of the University, representatives of public organizations, deans of the faculties, teachers and the University staff members attended the celebratory assembly.

The first year students received congratulations from correspondent member of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, professor Anatolij Serdukov and from Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, professor, honourable employee of the sphere of education of Republic of Belarus Michael Selkin.

The symbolic «key of knowledge» was given to the freshmen by the five year student of the Faculty of Economics, the owner of scholarship of the presidential fund of the talented youth, the chairperson of the Students` University Council Paulina Glushakova. The background music was «Gaudeamus».

The sportsmen who achieved great results at the different international championships during the last year were also mentioned at the ceremony.

At the end of the celebratory assembly the members of student club presented a short performance.
