Education for Success

The mission of the Department of Economics is to train highly qualified specialists in economics and management that will successfully compete in labour-market and serve the national economy and business effectively. The bases of the educational process are modern educational technologies, advanced research achievements, constant improvement of working conditions for the staff, resource development, recruiting highly-qualified specialists and supporting the professional growth of the existing ones.

The Department of Economics is the largest one in Francisk Skorina Gomel State University

Our faculty is one of the oldest schools in Belarus providing economic and business education of a high level. It originated in 1969, when at Mechanical and Mathematical Faculty a program "Economy of Labor" was created. Since the foundation till present time the department has developed dynamically. More than 7500 highly qualified experts of economics and management have graduated from the Economics Faculty. They are of considerable importance in national economic development. Some of our graduates occupy positions of influence with leading enterprises and state institutions of Gomel region and the Republic of Belarus.

International cooperation

French-Belarusian Institute of Management is an educational project of the Economics Faculty in Francisk Skorina Gomel State University and in the School of Management of Auvergne University Clermont-1, France. Its curriculum is based on curricula of "World Economy" and "Economics and Enterprise Management". The students of the Economics Faculty are given preference when enrolling in the French-Belarusian Institute of Management. The students of the institute are taught part of their course in France as well as having practical training there. Upon successful completion of the course the students are granted both state Belarusian diploma and French diploma (license, master certificate), recognized worldwide. More than 100 students study at French-Belarusian Institute of Management now.

The students of Economics Faculty have an opportunity to have practical training at the representative offices of Belarusian enterprises in the Czech Republic, Austria and Russia.

The five departments of the faculty prepare students for professional careers in management and economics according to the subjects studied. 60 highly qualified teachers are their members; half of them have academic degrees and titles.

Professor Mikhail Nauchitel's school of Economics and Economics History was founded in 1970s. The present leader of the school is professor Boris Sorvirov, Doctor of Economics, Head of Economics and World Economy Department. The personnel of the faculty works on research projects, that examine important issues of the national and world economy. Prominent students perform research programmes at departments' research labs.
